Did you know that the artisanal sector is the second biggest source of employment in developing countries, after agriculture?
It’s true: millions of people, mostly women, work in the sector. Their work helps to generate global revenues totaling USD 34bn annually. However, more work is needed so that the industry creates a greater economic and social impact for its workforce.
We provide EDUCATION through innovation and design workshops, digital literacy campaigns and business development training. This develops local capacity and allows communities to rescue their cultural heritage; it allows women to be independent and empowered; and it supports a better future for their families.
Children are the future of each community and of the world. We are committed to supporting their education. We aim to provide materials that support their learning and develop workshops to ensure that they are ready for primary education.
Investing in the economic empowerment of women contributes to gender equality, the eradication of poverty and inclusive economic growth.
Our focus includes intellectual, economic and environmental empowerment.
LEADERSHIP to support gender equality. At Hilo Sagrado we seek to empower all women and girls through training programs which develop recognised leadership skills and tools.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT to drive the independence and sustainable growth of business initiatives led by these communities of women artisans. Through our “Market Incubation Program” we aim to empower women and guarantee their participation in the Colombian market.
INCLUSION, so that the deep legacy and value of their traditions and culture, as expressed in their artisanal work, is recognised, and becomes an integral part of global ethical trade.

Water & Sanitation
We are working to guarantee the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation services in Wayuú communities, one of their most pressing challenges. Through our #todosporlaGuajira program, together with our partners we are in the process of bringing water to the whole community.
Building Better Homes
We run workshops which aim to teach construction techniques that complement ancestral traditions in order to improve the quality of families’ homes and lives.
Wayuú communities do not have a trash collection system. For that reason we provide support to allow them to separate trash from recyclable material, and to help them to reuse the latter to create new products, such as an ‘ecobrick’, which has been used in constructing new buildings in the communities.
We are delivering workshops on crop cultivation to young people in the communities so that they can manage their harvests better and improve infant nutrition.
We also teach the importance of growing crops with high nutritional content such as moringa
